Reimagining Luxury: The All-New 2026 Lexus ES Unveiled

The 2026 Lexus ES marks a bold new chapter for the iconic luxury sedan, unveiled on April 23, 2025, at the Shanghai International Automobile Industry Exhibition. As the first Lexus core model to offer both hybrid and battery electric vehicle (BEV) powertrains, the eighth-generation ES embodies the brand’s forward-thinking vision of “Experience Elegance and Electrified Sedan.” With a striking design inspired by the next-generation BEV concept LF-ZC, enhanced ride comfort, and a luxurious cabin, the 2026 ES redefines what a luxury sedan can be.

A Milestone in Lexus Electrification

Since its debut alongside the flagship LS in 1989, the Lexus ES has been a cornerstone of the brand’s lineup. The 2026 model introduces a multi-platform approach, offering hybrid (ES 350h) and BEV (ES 350e and ES 500e) options with front- and all-wheel-drive configurations. This aligns with Lexus’ “Lexus Electrified” vision, which emphasizes expanding hybrid, plug-in hybrid, and BEV offerings to meet diverse customer needs.

As the second of three new Lexus BEV models set to launch by March 2026, the ES is a key part of the brand’s electrification momentum, culminating in a comprehensive reimagining of Lexus to be showcased at the Japan Mobility Show in October 2025.

Design: Clean Tech x Elegance

The 2026 ES introduces Lexus’ new design language, Clean Tech x Elegance, blending refined minimalism with emotional appeal. Drawing inspiration from the LF-ZC concept, the exterior balances intelligent packaging with sleek proportions, creating a flowing silhouette that hints at dynamic performance.

Exterior Highlights

  • New Spindle Body: A sharply defined spindle shape extends from the hood to the bumper, with a low nose and horizontal fenders creating a bold, grounded stance. Hybrid models feature a slim upper grille for cooling.
  • Side Profile: A taut, streamlined design with enhanced shoulder contours improves aerodynamics, while a trunkless impression emphasizes power and presence.
  • Rear Design: A sculpted rear tapers boldly, paired with a low center-of-gravity stance for a dynamic look. The Rear L-Signature Lamp, integrated with an illuminated Lexus logo, enhances recognition.
  • Twin L-Signature Lamps: Inward-facing daytime running lights and outward-facing turn signals form a distinctive double signature, improving visibility and style.
  • Exclusive Color: All ES models offer Wavelength, a Lexus-first exterior color, adding a unique touch to the lineup.

Spacious and Luxurious Interior

The ES cabin is designed for openness and comfort, with a reengineered platform extending the overall length by 6.5 inches and the wheelbase by 3 inches compared to its predecessor. Key interior features include:

  • Enhanced Visibility: Slim seats, lowered window frames, and increased glass surface area create an airy, open atmosphere.
  • Executive Package: Available for the first time in North America on the ES 350e FWD Luxury model, this package offers reclining rear seats with a passenger-side ottoman, massaging outboard rear seats, and rear seat heating/ventilation.
  • Innovative Design Elements: Bamboo Layering (3D-printed bamboo with Thematic Ambient Illumination) and Synthetic Leather Embossing elevate the sensory experience.
  • Tazuna Cockpit: A driver-focused layout with a low-profile meter hood, a 12.3-inch multi-information display, and suede materials enhances usability and elegance.
  • Audio Excellence: The Mark Levinson® Surround Sound System optimizes speaker placement for an immersive, three-dimensional soundstage.

The updated Lexus Interface multimedia system features a 14-inch touchscreen, wireless Apple CarPlay® and Android Auto™, dual Bluetooth® connectivity, and improved Voice Assistant with split-screen capability and native navigation integrated into the digital gauge cluster.

Diverse Powertrain Options

Built on a redesigned TNGA GA-K platform, the ES accommodates both hybrid and BEV powertrains with increased rigidity for reduced vibrations, sharper steering, and smoother acceleration. A new multi-link rear suspension enhances power delivery and vehicle control, paired with a MacPherson strut front suspension.

ES 350h (Hybrid)

The ES 350h features a sixth-generation 2.5-liter hybrid system with an integrated eAxle, offering a compact, lightweight design and higher battery output. Available in AWD, it delivers enhanced power, reduced vibrations, and a quieter cabin.

ES 350e and ES 500e (BEV)

The BEV lineup includes the front-wheel-drive ES 350e and all-wheel-drive ES 500e:

  • Battery and Range: A large-capacity underfloor battery lowers the center of gravity. The ES 350e offers a manufacturer-estimated 300-mile range (19” wheels), while the ES 500e provides 250 miles.
  • DIRECT4 AWD (ES 500e): This intelligent system adjusts torque distribution (100:0 to 0:100) for superior acceleration, handling, and efficiency.
  • Charging: Both models feature a NACS charging port with DC fast charging (10% to 80% in ~30 minutes under ideal conditions) and an 11-kW onboard AC charger for Level 1 and 2 charging.

Advanced Safety with Lexus Safety System+ 4.0

The 2026 ES is the first Lexus model to feature Lexus Safety System+ 4.0 (LSS+ 4.0), an updated suite with enhanced hardware and detection capabilities. Full details will be shared closer to launch, but this system underscores Lexus’ commitment to safety and innovation.

Availability and Final Thoughts

The 2026 Lexus ES will go on sale next year, with pricing and detailed specifications to be announced closer to the launch date. With its multi-platform powertrain options, bold new design, and luxurious cabin, the ES reimagines the luxury sedan segment, delivering elegance, comfort, and electrified performance for a refined driving experience.
